Loomis, Inez Marie
Inez Marie Loomis, 100, of Washington, Iowa, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at the United Presbyterian Home. Calling hours will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. today at the Jones Eden Funeral Home. Interment will take place at 11 today at the Friends Cemetery in Richland, Iowa. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p. m. today at the funeral home with Pastor Julie Poulsen officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.
Memorials have been established for the United Methodist Church or the Washington Public Library.

Inez was born April 29, 1909, in Packwood, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Hilma (Sable) Loomis. She graduated from Packwood High School and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Northern Iowa. Inez later received her Master's Degree from Drake University.
Her teaching career began in country schools in Keokuk and Jefferson counties and continued in Colfax, Iowa, and Downers Grove, Illinois. Inez then taught math in the Des Moines Public School System for over 30 years, retiring in 1974. Following her retirement she worked at the Kirkwood Community College Adult Literacy Department for nearly 20 years.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the AAUW and Public Affairs of Fortnightly. A life member of the Retired Teachers Association of Iowa, where she served on the executive board and a life member of the National Retired Teachers Association. An accomplished seamstress and quilter, she was also an Elder Hostel enthusiast, including travels to Machu Picchu, Peru, the Galapagos Islands and Australia.
She is survived by one nephew, Ed Augustine and his wife, Gwyn of Ames; and one niece, Janet Ferguson of Pueblo, Colo.
Inez was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Pearl Loomis and Vera Augustine.
