To celebrate the 100
th
anniversary of the planting of the formal garden, Brucemore is partnering with the Cedar Rapids Visual Arts Commission to bring public art to the estate grounds.
“The Frame,” measuring approximately 8 feet by 10 feet, was installed today (7/14/2010) near the Night Garden, framing a view of the formal garden and the mansion.
“Art has always featured prominently in Brucemore's history, and we are honored to serve as a preferred site for ‘The Frame.'” says Jim Kern, Brucemore's executive director.
“Its location on the estate brings focus to the formal gardens and the Brucemore mansion. The addition of this art piece extends an invitation to the community to enjoy the serenity and beauty of a signature part of historic Brucemore,” he says.
Liberty Ironworks created “The Frame” in 2005 with funding from two private donors. The Cedar Rapids Parks Department will move “The Frame” periodically to various locations throughout the city as part of the Visual Arts Commission's effort to preserve visual art in public places and to enhance the lives of residents and visitors.
”100 Years and Growing” was created by Brucemore and Ruth Fox, an OPN landscape architect and chairwoman of Cedar Rapids' Visual Arts Commission, to herald the role that cultural landscapes, both built and natural, play in revealing aspects of a community's origin and development.
Brucemore, Iowa's only National Trust Historic Site, is located at 2160 Linden Dr. SE. The grounds are open daily from dawn until dusk and are free and available to the public.
