Vote yes for library levy
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Oct. 13, 2013 1:14 pm
I encourage Hiawatha residents to vote yes in November for a library levy. A yes vote will provide 27 cents per $1,000 assessed home value. This money will contribute greatly to improvements and staffing needs at the Hiawatha Public Library. Our library, although small, serves thousands of patrons each month with an average of more than 300 daily visitors.
Without question, a strong library system like ours greatly contributes to a healthy community. Continuing our investment in our children by helping them learn to read and read to learn is invaluable. Youth literacy, promoting learning and supporting safe and constructive environments pays huge dividends for the future.
During the last 10 years, the library usage has increased dramatically, further demonstrating libraries' value to our communities. Let's vote yes for our library services levy and keep working to keep our communities healthy and safe.
