Green Iowa volunteers working behind scenes

A dedicated group of volunteers is helping Linn County residents and deserves recognition. The young men and women of Green Iowa AmeriCorps are working each day, answering the call of community service and making a big impact.
This spring at the Cedar Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency, Green Iowa volunteers have been helping educate every sixth-grade student in the Cedar Rapids Community and the College Community school districts during tours of the landfill and recycling center. They also have conducted surveys on behalf of Recycle More Linn County, helping determine future recycling programs and increasing awareness of recycling services available to all Linn County residents.
Throughout the year, Green Iowa volunteers work on weatherization projects across the area. This summer they also will help with Freedom Fest, and when RAG-BRAI rolls into town, they will be at every campsite and in downtown Cedar Rapids, collecting trash, recyclables and working to make sure visitors are having a good time.
If you run into one of these hardworking volunteers, please take time to say thanks. Their spirit and dedication makes our community a better place.
