Ballfields at Jones Park a story of success
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Sep. 6, 2009 12:28 am
This is a story of success. Recently, collaboration was formed between the private and public sectors to renovate two youth baseball fields at Jones Park, a place above the flood plain that is a bike ride away for a kid to play the game with friends.
Representatives of the Baseball Tomorrow Fund, AEGON Transamerica Foundation, Hall Perrine Foundation, Kernels Foundation, King's Materials, Minor League Baseball Charities, Perfect Game, Rockwell Collins, Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation and others and the City of Cedar Rapids came together to provide a positive quality of life effort for youth.
A special appreciation is offered to Jack Roeder of the Kernels and Bill Quinby. When they embrace a great idea, things seem to get done.
It is hoped this effort will be a new beginning of cooperation as our town emerges into the daylight of its future.
