Mineck, Iona Mae
Iona Mae Mineck, 93, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, Ill. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church by the Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Survivors include her daughter., Joan (Wally) Kusnierz and their son, Kristopher Kusnierz; a brother, Earl (Dora) Bohlken of Marion; and her goddaughter, Debbie Willman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest in 1997.
Iona was born May 1, 1919 in Sand Springs, Iowa, to Frederick and Jessie Bohlken. She married Ernest Wayne Mineck in Cedar Rapids on June 5, 1949.
Iona enjoyed her home and working in her yard and flower gardens. Shopping was one of her favorite activities, along with reading the newspaper and working the daily puzzles. She was one of the best arm chair judges for “Dancing with the Stars” and “The Bachelor/Bachelorette.” Iona enjoyed her family, friends and neighbors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church.
