Dohrmann, Thekla M. (Juengel)
Thekla M. (Juengel) Dohrmann, 98, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Newhall, passed away Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall with the Rev. Steven Rempfer officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the church.
Thekla was born June 19, 1912, to the Rev. Ernst G. Juengel and Anna Sparfeld in Vallonia, Ind. She graduated from Hampton High School, Hampton, Iowa. On June 3, 1938, she married the Rev. E. F. Dohrmann in Fort Dodge. Together they served the Lord at Victor, Adair, Ida Grove, Newhall and Buckeye. She took pride in entertaining guests on short notice. Interests included sewing, quilting, knitting, baking, canning and gardening. She also enjoyed all God's creation, especially viewing birds, beautiful sunsets and the stars.
The past few years, Thekla and her twin, Irene lived together - spending time in both Iowa and Arizona with family. They loved doing WordFind puzzles and watching America's Funniest Home Videos. They even still dressed alike! They now have been reunited in their eternal home.
Survivors include a son, Tim (Sherri) Dohrmann of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Mary Ann (Paul) Timmerman of East Worcester, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Troy Dohrmann, Shawn Dohrmann, Stefanie Dohrmann, Ruth (Kip) Sheek and Tiffany (Steve) Ryan; nine great-grandchildren; and one great- great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward; son, Joel; her parents; seven brothers; and six sisters.
Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Mercy, St. John Lutheran Church; or Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
