A look at Tuesday's games at the boys state tournament

CLASS 2A QUARTERFINALS
TURKEY VALLEY (19-6) vs. IKM-MANNING (24-0) at 12:05 p.m.: Second-seeded IKM-Manning finished the regular season ranked No. 2 by the Associated Press. It's the first state tournament trip for the combined program, though Manning made eight tourney appearances, Manilla three and Manilla IKM two. The Wolves limited opponents to less than 40 points 16 times this season. All five starters are seniors, led by forwards Jared Croghan (12.8 ppg) and Rick Blake (10.3) ... This also is the first state tournament appearance for Turkey Valley, which finished second to Sumner-Fredericksburg in the Upper Iowa Conference. TV has won 13 of its last 15 games, including a last-second victory in the substate final over Dyersville Beckman. Only senior guard Brad Winter (10.0 ppg) averages double figures in scoring. Junior forward Mitch Balik averages 8.8 ppg and 7.8 rpg.
MID-PRAIRIE (19-5) vs. SOLON (23-2) at 1:45 p.m.: Third-seeded Solon looks for a 2A championship repeat. The Spartans' lone defeats were to Mid-Prairie in late December and to 3A qualifier Western Dubuque. Solon has won 50 of its last 52 games. Senior guard Tanner Wentzien leads the team in scoring at 13.0 ppg. Coach Brad Randall has a career record of 297-91 in 17 seasons ... M-P's Don Showalter is 540-267 in 37 seasons as a prep coach, 27 as a Golden-Hawk. Mid-Prairie finished second to North Cedar in the Cedar Valley Conference, with two of its losses to the Knights. Outstanding all-around athlete Tanner Miller leads the team in scoring at 18.7 ppg. This is the seventh state trip for M-P.
CLASS 3A QUARTERFINALS
WESTERN DUBUQUE (19-5) vs. MOUNT PLEASANT (21-1) at 3:30 p.m.: WD has made one prior state tournament appearance, winning it all in 3A in 2001. Head coach Dennis Geraghty has prior state tourney experience at West Delaware. Six-foot-3 junior guard Zach Otting leads the Bobcats with an 18.7 scoring average. Six-foot-8 center Derrick Pape averages 11.9 ppg and 9.1 rpg. He is the only starter in a lineup that also includes sophomores Logan Pitz and Hunter Westhoff ... Mount Pleasant's lone loss was late in the regular season to Marion. This is the first state tournament appearance for head coach Paul Rundquist, who was an all-stater for his father, Gordon, at Maquoketa Valley. It's an all-junior starting lineup for the Panthers that includes leading scorer Scott Hahn (17.1 ppg). Six-foot-4 center Henry Krieger-Coble averages 15.1 ppg and 8.1 rpg, shooting over 70 percent from the field.
