A district court judge has dismissed lawsuits that challenged council votes that advanced Cargill’s construction of a rail yard in Cedar Rapids’ Rompot neighborhood. The rail yard is slated to become fully operational in December.

Plans calling for the construction of 89 new single-family houses east of the Rompot neighborhood and the site of Cargill’s contentious rail yard project got the green light from the City Planning Commission this week.
The appeals court ordered Rompot neighborhood residents have a chance to be heard in district court in the lawsuit against the city of Cedar Rapids over the Cargill rail yard, which began to be built this summer.
