CEDAR RAPIDS – Two rounds of snow are predicted to impact Eastern Iowa early this week with the potential for significant accumulation.
The first system is expected to bring light snow with two to three inches predicted north of Interstate 80. Areas to the south could see one to two inches. This round is expected to last from midnight tonight until midnight Monday.
The second system, which is expected to be stronger, will impact the area early Tuesday morning through Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service, snowfall amounts could be between six and 12 inches southeast of a line from Iowa City to Freeport, Ill. Areas to the south of that line could see even higher amounts.
Adding to the trouble, winds will increase to 20 to 30 miles per hour Tuesday night into Wednesday resulting in blowing and drifting.
