Megan, Thomas G.
Thomas G. Megan, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, March 15, 2010, in his home following a long illness. Funeral Mass: Friday 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church by the Rev. Phil Thompson. Burial: 2 p.m., Hubbard Cemetery, Hubbard, Iowa. A Vigil service will be held Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may visit from 4 until 7 p.m., and Friday from 8:30 until 9:15 a.m. Military honors by American Legion Post No. 727.
Survivors include a son, Jim and Joellen Megan of Iowa City; brother-in-law, Harold Brandt of Ankeny; sister-in-law, Virginia Nehring of Las Vegas, Nev.; cousin, Marylinn Hayes of Strawberry Point; and several nieces and nephews.
His wife, sister, and brother preceded Thomas in death.
Thomas Glann Megan was born Sept. 3, 1926, in Eldora, the son of William J. and Frances Glann Megan. He married Ellen Marie Nehring on Sept. 17, 1949, in Eldora. He served his country in the Army during World War II. He farmed in Hardin County for many years and then worked as a custodian at Kirkwood Community College for 22 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus No. 909, and the American Legion.
