Fillenworth, Gary L.
CEDAR RAPIDS - Gary L. Fillenworth, 65, of Springville, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Sept. 30, 2010, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, from cancer, with his family by his side. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Private inurnment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Kit Fillenworth; sons, Scott (Kim) of Marengo, Jeff (Heather), Brent (Denise) and Troy (Deanna), all of Cedar Rapids; stepsons, Jason Kelly of Seattle, Wash., Dennis (Sarah) Kelly of Coralville and Ryan Kelly of Springville; one sister, Glenda Fillenworth of Cedar Rapids; and one sister-in-law, Connie Fillenworth of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Hillary, Trent, Mariah, Hailee, Scott, Keegan, Kaleb, Alexis, Alaina, Andrew and Emily; and nieces, Brooke and Sam. He is also survived by his close companion, Braxton (his dog).
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Terry.
Gary Lee Fillenworth was born Jan. 6, 1945, in Cedar Rapids, the beloved son of Harold and Lois (Pilgrim) Fillenworth. He served his country honorably in the United States Army. He was united in marriage to Kit Tupper on Aug. 22, 1997, in Cedar Rapids. He was employed for over 40 years as an account manager for the Mid-Continent/Dr Pepper Bottling Co. Gary enjoyed gardening with his wife, and was a member of the Harshbarger Hosta Society. He also enjoyed his Harley motorcycle, four wheeling, and wood working. Above all, his greatest enjoyment was time spent with his family.
He will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Gary's memory may be made to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
