Aldo M. Berhow, 98, of Cedar Rapids, a resident of Manor Care, passed away Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015. Family will greet friends from 2 to 3 p.m Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Graveside service: 3 p.m. Wednesday at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer.
Survivors include his son, Dominick (Michelle) Berhow; grandchildren, Brittanie (Alex), Timothy and Nicholas; three great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Robert Berhow.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nettie, who passed away in November 1988; his parents, Lloyd and Edith (Espe) Berhow; and brothers, Verne, Merlyn and Bill.
Aldo M. Berhow, the eldest of four sons, was born at Crystal Lake, Iowa, on July 10, 1917. He lived his youth in Kanawha, Iowa, with his grandmother, Matilda Espe. He graduated from high school in May 1936. The winter of 1937 he enrolled in Cedar Rapids Barber College, graduated in April 1938 and served his apprenticeship in Lime Springs, Cresco and Kanawha, Iowa. In 1944, he moved to Cedar Rapids, while he barbered at Grey Clark's Barbershop until October 1951. In October 1951, Aldo opened up a barber shop in Palo. He married Nettie McCann on May 10, 1954. They were married for 34 years. Aldo retired in July 1979 from barbering.
Aldo had been a Cubs fan since his youth and enjoyed listening to them on the radio and watching them on TV. He has been to several Cubs games in the beautiful vine covered Wrigley Field.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
