IOWA CITY - A 22-year-old Iowa City man faces an assault charge after allegedly biting a bar employee.
Police said Meredyth L. Rice, of 831 E. Jefferson St., was in the Union Bar, 121 E. College St., around 12:15 a.m. Sunday when the employee tried to help another employee escort Rice out the bar after Rice refused to leave after being verbally asked.
Rice then became violent and allegedly bit the bar employee on his shoulder and his back, causing bite marks, according to criminal complaints.
The employee's skin was swollen and bruised and had individual teeth impressions where the bite marks occurred, police said.
Rice was charged with assault causing bodily injury and sits in the Johnson County Jail on a $5,000 cash-only bond.
