Vehicle/train crash injures three in Cedar County

UPDATE: An Iowa Interstate Railroad train heading west out of Durant struck a pickup at a private crossing Monday morning, injuring three people.
A railroad spokesperson said the train was traveling approximately 40 miles per hour when it hit a vehicle at the crossing on private property around 8:18 a.m.. The vehicle was exiting the Durant Iron & Metal works plant at 2226 Highway 927.
No information was available from law enforcement at the scene, but the railroad spokesperson said two people were taken from the scene by ambulance to a local hospital. The train will remain at the scene until a safety inspection is complete.
Durant is located in Cedar County, near the Scott County line.
An Iowa State Patrol trooper who investigated the crash said a driver, age 51, was behind the wheel when the train struck the passenger side of the pickup.
The crash also injured two juveniles.
All three were taken to Genesis Hospital in Davenport with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
Authorities have not yet identified the victims.
