A trial for a Secret Service agent, on assignment in Decorah to help with presidential security in August, charged with operating while under the influence, was reset to Jan. 18 in Winneshiek County District Court.
City Police Chief Bill Nixon said Daniel L. Valencia, 40, was off duty when he was arrested. Valencia was arrested while President Barack Obama visited Decorah Aug. 16 as part of a three-day Midwestern bus trip.
Nixon said after the arrest officers suspected Valencia had been drinking, but that no vehicles were involved in an accident. He declined further comment.
Secret Service spokesman George Ogilvee confirmed after the arrest that Valencia is a special agent with the agency and the matter was turned over to the Office of Professional Responsibility for an internal investigation.
A pretrial conference also was set Jan. 3.
