Iowa reports 86 new virus cases, zero deaths

Iowa on Monday added 86 new COVID-19 cases Monday, with a seven-day average of new cases — 235 — that is the lowest average since April 20, 2020.

The new cases bring the total number of cases in the state since March 2020 to 369,441, according to the Iowa Department of Public Health.

Twenty-four of the new cases reported Monday were among children up to age 18, bringing the total in that age group to 44,117 since March 2020.

Linn County added 14 new cases as of 11 a.m. Monday, with a seven-day average of 19 and the total since March 2020 to 20,918.

Johnson County reported five new cases, with a seven-day average of eight and a total since March 2020 of 14,500.

Vaccinations

As of Monday afternoon, the number of fully vaccinated Iowans was 1,220,566 — or 38.69 percent of the state’s population and 45.61 percent of the Iowans over age 12, the youngest age where a vaccine is approved.

The number of people who have been fully vaccinated in the state, including non-Iowans, was 1,269,467.

The state reported 1,167,770 individuals have completed the Moderna or Pfizer two-shot regimen while 101,697 people have received the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

The number of total doses administered in the state as of 1:30 p.m. Monday was 2,614,185.

In Linn County, 96,718 people were fully vaccinated as of Monday. That is 42.66 percent of the county’s total population and 53.6 percent of the population 16 and over.

In Johnson County, 75,013 county residents were fully vaccinated. That’s 49.63 percent of the county’s total population and 60.34 percent of the population that’s 16 and older.

Hospitalizations

Across the state, COVID-19 hospitalizations dropped from 145 to 137 during the 24-hour period ending at 11 a.m. Monday. That is the lowest number since July 4, 2020.

The number of patients in intensive care dipped from 42 to 41, and the number of patients on ventilators decreased from 20 to 14.

Long-term care

One long-term care facility in Iowa is continuing to experience a COVID-19 outbreak of three or more cases among residents and staff.

Risen Son Christian Village in Pottawattamie County was added to the outbreak list last week and was reporting 10 cases as of 11 a.m. Monday.

To date, 2,337 people in long-term care have died as a result of COVID-19, accounting for roughly 39 percent of the state’s death toll.

Deaths

With no new confirmed deaths reported Monday. Iowa’s COVID-19 death toll remains at 6,006.
