Konicek, George Jr.
George Konicek Jr., 83, of Clutier, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center following a short illness. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Chelsea, by Deacon Joe Behounek. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Vining, with military rites. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Hrabak Funeral Home, Belle Plaine, with a Scripture service at 6:30 p.m.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene; a daughter, Connie (Alan) Weaver of Tama; grandchildren, Mike Polka Jr. and Mindy Burnhart; and great-grandchildren, Kaylee Buffington and Murray Polka.
George was preceded in death by his parents, George Sr. and Blanche Kubalek Konicek Messinger.
George loved his family and friends. He enjoyed listening to and playing polka music on his accordion for different occasions in the area. He was a farmer most of his life, but did read meters for the REC for several years. He will be missed.
He served in the Army during the Korean conflict and was a member of the Eagles in Tama and the Clutier American Legion.
