Leonard J. (Coot) Houser
Leonard J. (Coot) Houser, 87, of Scottsdale, Ariz., passed away June 28, 2013. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 3, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, with grandson, Father Michael Houser of Rome, Italy, officiating. Graveside services were held at Green Acres Memorial Gardens.
He was born Dec. 14, 1925, in Amana, to loving parents, Frank and Rose Houser. He married Beth Klenk on Aug. 11, 1949, at St. Wenceslaus Church in Cedar Rapids.
He was a member of the American Legion for 67 years, and the VFW and DAV after serving in the Philippines in World War II and then in the Korean War.
He retired in 2005 after 38 years as a remodeling contractor.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife; his parents; and brother, Otto Houser.
He is survived by daughters, Sandra Tompkins of Scottsdale and Dr. Deborah (Edward) Garland of Gilbert, Ariz.; son, Dr. Michael (Shirley) of Chesterfield, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Rose Maresh of Ely and Rita (Otis) Sebastian of Newhall; and brothers, Lumir of Scottsdale and Francis (Kathleen) of Cedar Rapids.
