Maxine Marie DeKock, 86, of Marion, formerly of Tipton, died peacefully Thursday evening, May 1, 2014. There will be a private service to honor her memory at a later date. In the meantime, feel free to share your online condolences and photographs at

Maxine was born Feb. 4, 1928, in Tipton, the daughter of Gus and Norma Jons Horn. She graduated from Tipton High School, received her nursing degree from the University of Iowa and worked as a registered nurse for a short time. She was united in marriage to Robert P. (Bob) DeKock on Aug. 11, 1950, in Tipton. Maxine and Bob owned and operated DeKock Drug Co. in Tipton for 35 years, until they retired in 1985. They later moved to Marion to be closer to family. Maxine dedicated her life to caring for her husband and children. She and Bob were longtime members of the Tipton United Methodist Church and was a past member of the Eastern Star.
Those left to honor her life are her husband, Bob DeKock of Marion; sons, Jim (Leola) DeKock of Madison, Wis., Ken (Lynn) DeKock of Marion and Dave (Anna) DeKock of Ottumwa; brother-in-law, Bill (Margie) DeKock of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Jason, Michael (Kallie) and Jonathan; one step-grandchild, Wesley (Amanda); and stepgreat-grandchildren, Mason and Madison.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Robert Horn; and a sister, Margaret Richardson.
