Stop spending tax dollars foolishly

To the editor:
Regarding the June 3 article 'Library poised to ask voters for new tax”:
The taxpayers of Cedar Rapids also have seen increases in every utility, water, gas and electric bill this year, along with another mere $1.6 million to keep up this fancy library. Sure, bring it on. Additional tax dollars for Westdale and other old buildings. Sure, why not?
When are officials going to quit spending tax dollars foolishly? Shouldn't they have considered the long-term cost of running a library before spending millions of dollars building it? Who did the financial analysis on this project? In the private world, that person would no longer have a job. Cut the 'crap” and cut the fat from your spending and get 'real.”
Cedar Rapids needs to start looking for leaders who will spend tax dollars wisely and be honest with voters before proposing projects. It seems the concept of a balanced budget, prioritizing and spending within your means has been lost again by our leaders.
Finally, I'm not sure about anyone else in this community, but I'm really getting tired of being threatened (as the library official does in the article) by stating there could be a loss of services, when they want to 'push” people to approve more taxes. Wake up people, it's time to start getting involved in what's happening in this city.
