Hill, Forrest Charles
Forrest Charles Hill, 93, of Dysart, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, May 21, 2010, after an extended illness. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 25, at Geneseo United Methodist Church, 3127 115th St., Buckingham. Burial will be at Hill-Mooreville Cemetery, Dysart. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Overton Funeral Home in Dysart.
Forrest was born May 11, 1917, the only son of Charles and Bertha Taylor Hill, on the farm his grandfather homesteaded in 1853 in Geneseo Township, Tama County, Iowa. Forrest graduated from high school at Geneseo and later attended Iowa State University. He farmed the family farm his entire life until his retirement, and remained on the farm until his death.
On June 2, 1940, Forrest married Edythe J. Zimmer at Zion Lutheran Church in Dysart. The couple moved to Forrest's farm outside Dysart and into a house that Forrest built for his bride. They shared married life together for 69 years in that same farmhouse until Edythe's death on Aug. 26, 2009. Forrest and Edythe were blessed with five children.
Forrest was a member of the Geneseo United Methodist Church and Church of Promise, both in rural Buckingham, served on the Geneseo school board for 13 ½ years, was district soil commissioner for eight years, was president of the Tama County Farm Bureau for two years and served on the State Policy committee, was on the Tama County Zoning Board, on various church committees and served as a 4-H leader.
Forrest was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Charles; and a sister, Isabelle Larsen. He is survived by a son, Robert (Patricia) Hill of Dysart; three daughters, Susan Hill of Phoenix, Ariz., Charlotte (William) Brenning of Decorah and Patricia Hill of Chicago; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Hill of Ohio.
The family requests memorial contributions be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice, Geneseo United Methodist Church or Church of Promise in memory of Forrest.
Memorials may be given to Geneseo United Methodist Church, Buckingham; Church of Promise, Buckingham; or Cedar Valley Hospice.
