Brown, Velma Frances
She was born July 26, 1914, in rural Coggon, Iowa, the daughter of Leslie and Hazel Henderson. She graduated from Coggon High School 1931. Velma married George Brown Feb. 24, 1937, in Manchester, Iowa. For many years was the bookkeeper for her husband's business, Brown's Conoco at the corner of Burlington and Clinton streets and later Brown's Shell in Rock Island, Ill.
You might have seen her at First Presbyterian Church, Fairview Golf Course, Iowa City Women's Club meeting, on a bus trip with Four Seasons Garden Club, at Jessamine Chapter #135 Order of Eastern Star meeting, planting or weeding flowers in her yard, watching her grandsons and great-grandchildren play baseball and show their animals at the county fair. She loved to sew, play bridge, travel and was an excellent cook.
She will be remembered for her quiet sweetness, positive attitude, hearty laugh and the care and love she showed to all who knew her.
Memorial gifts may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or First Presbyterian Church, Iowa City.
