Wind blows roof off Kalona business

High afternoon winds blew a section of roof off the Affordable Metal Manufacturing building, 2340 Highway 1 SW, in Kalona. Sam Eicher, an employee, said it happened around 4 p.m. while he was helping load a customers car. Eicher said he estimated the winds at about 60-70 mph.
“I've always wanted to see a tornado,” Eicher said. Although it was not a tornado, Eicher said it may be the closest he will ever get to that wish.
No one was injured, and employees began cleaning up the debris just minutes after the roof blew off. Eicher said the section of roof was part of a new addition added about five months ago.
