Letter: Protest on interstate was dangerous

Recently since the election, groups of people have demonstrated and in some cases rioted to express their disagreement with the selection of Donald Trump as our next president. A lot has been said about the right of these individuals to protest but not to injure, damage property or impede others.
On Nov. 11, an Iowa City group decided to move from their initial location to Interstate 80 and stop traffic during the busy rush hour. This action was dangerous to the protesters and to people in the vehicles finding it necessary to abruptly stop on the travel portion of the interstate for miles behind them. Even those on Interstate 380 in the exit lane for I-80 east backed up for a distance with abrupt stops in the travel portion of the highway.
I know this because I was one that had to stop on I-380 southbound about a mile from the I-80 east exit ramp. I broke hard to avoid the stopped vehicles in front of me and the two vehicles behind me had to swerve onto the shoulder to my right to avoid hitting me.
From my perspective the actions of the protesters on I-80 was irresponsible and could have easily caused deaths, injuries and property damage.
All of this because some individuals did not get the results of the election process they wanted. So much for the Constitution and all of the people put in jeopardy by the actions of those who cannot deal with not getting their way.
