Letter: Veterans grateful for Honor Flight experience

We would like to thank everyone involved with the May 24 Honor Flight.
Our experience was incredible and the organization was second to none. The sponsors and volunteers had the program down to a science. Everything went perfect, without a hitch.
When we entered the airport at Washington, D.C., people waiting to board their own flights cleared an aisle to allow the Honor Flight veterans and guardians to pass. They then stood, cheered and clapped as we passed. It brought pride to everyone on the flight and also brought a lump in your throat and a few tears of joy.
The tour to the memorials and Arlington Cemetery, especially the Changing of the Guard, was inspiring. Afterward two members of the Honor Guard came out and spoke about their training and answered questions. All meals and water were provided. The veterans virtually had no expenses. Everything was preplanned and came off like clock work. We were especially thankful for the letters from school kids and gifts from donors.
In conclusion, the arrival at The Eastern Iowa Airport was something to behold. All of the veteran groups, firemen, law enforcement, boy scouts, girl scouts, friends and family welcoming us back made the whole trip something we will never forget.
Again, we want to thank everyone involved in making this possible.
