FUTURE PROBLEM SOLVERS:
Some Iowa students have had a unique opportunity this fall to immerse themselves in technology. FLEx, or Forward Learning Experience, is a high-tech mobile classroom designed by an industrial design graduate student at Iowa State University. it was unveiled in September and has since made two stops, and has highly customizable workstations that can be tailored to specific age groups or issues. Organizers hope to expand the pilot outreach program.

IOWA INGENUITY:
Workers at power management company Eaton in Shenandoah invented an electrical lockout device that minimizes safety risks during machine maintenance. Maintenance techs and tool designers in Shenandoah collaborated on the patent-pending device. The company is installing the newly developed Bus Plug Lockout at more than 40 manufacturing facilities worldwide.

EQUITY OVERSIGHT:
Iowa City Councilman Kingsley Botchway is a natural for his new role as the equity and staffing director at the Iowa City Community School District. He will oversee equity functions in the district, including professional development, conflict mediation and compliance with civil rights laws. Botchway also will help ensure equity among district staff.
