Buxton, Mary Nan
Mary Nan Buxton, 79, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully Dec. 22, 2010, in her home with her loved ones at her side. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Wesley Bruss officiating.
Surviving are her children, Mary Thomas and husband Bob of Cedar Rapids and Frank Buxton Jr. of Cedar Rapids; and grandchildren, Joshua Steinfeldt-Buxton of Virginia Beach, Va., and Katie Thomas of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank Sr.; brother, Chad; and sister, Eileen Countiss Mathias.
Mary Nan Buxton was born Dec. 5, 1931, in Joliet, Ill., the daughter of John Bascomb and Margaret Sarah (Anderson) Countiss. She was united in marriage to Frank Edwin Buxton Sr. on April 11, 1953, in Hinsdale, Ill. He preceded her in death in 1993. She graduated from Iowa State University, with a baccalaureate degree in vocational home economics in 1953. She enjoyed her dogs, gardening sewing, and teaching. Above all her greatest enjoyment was time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Mary's many loving caregivers for their kindness extended to Mary and her family.
