MARIKA (MARIA) TZORTZOUDAKIS (ANOGIANAKIS)
Cedar Rapids
Born Jan. 12, 1927, in Iraklion, Crete, Greece, and died March 22, 2014, at home, in Agia Varava (St.
Barbara), Crete, Greece.
Preceding her death were her son, John; father, Niklolaos Michael Anogianakis (Roulos); mother, Athena Anogianakis (Hiskaki); older brother, George; brother, Stavros; and husband, George.
Surviving are her son, Nick; and brother, George.
During her life she worked for the Iowa Manufacturing Company, was a Sunday school teacher, a volunteer for the American Red Cross and a librarian for the U.S.A.F., where she also taught Greek for military personnel.
She attended the University of Iowa and graduated from the Writer's Workshop.
She was also awarded the Memorial Medal as a member for her participation in the National Resistance for the Greek Nation from 1941 to 1945 against the military occupation during World War II.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, May 11, in Cedar Rapids at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, 501 A Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52401; and at St. George Antiochan Orthodox Church, 3650 Cottage Grove Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403. Liturgical services start at 10 a.m. at both churches.
Marika was a beloved mother and friend. May her memory be eternal.
