Iowa cuts the telephone cord

DES MOINES -- A report released this week shows the number of wireless phones in Iowa has surged ahead of the number of landlines, a development that signals wider changes in telecommunications.
The Iowa Utilities Board survey lists 1.94 million wireless phone connections and 1.48 million landlines as of mid-2007. That's a clear shift from the previous survey, two years ago, when the two types of voice service were neck and neck.
