To the editor:
The Gazette published an article on Feb. 20 entitled 'Report sheds light on school immunizations.”
The article indicates that Trinity Lutheran School has an immunization rate below 80 percent (78.42 percent). This information was not accurate.
Each school year Linn County Public Health conducts an initial audit in October and requires schools to clear up any missing immunization records by January of the same school year.
Trinity Lutheran School has complete immunization records for all pupils and has presented these records to Linn County Public Health.
Trinity Lutheran School is not below the 80 percent as cited earlier in The Gazette article. Quite differently, Trinity Lutheran School has four pupils with certificates of immunization exemption religious and the remaining 158 students have certificates of immunization. Trinity is in 100 percent compliance with the Iowa Health Department guidelines for the 2014-15 school year and have maintained this status for the past several years.
The debate over immunization is an intense one. Our concern is not to engage in the debate, but to clarify that as a school in your community, Trinity Lutheran School is in compliance with Linn County Public Health regulations.
