MOUNT VERNON, S.D. (AP) - An Iowa motorcyclist on his way to the Sturgis motorcycle rally with friends has died in a crash.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol says 36-year-old James Ingersoll, of Riverside, was killed Friday evening in a crash on Interstate 90 about three miles west of Mount Vernon.
The Patrol says Ingersoll failed to note traffic slowing in front of him and struck a camper.
Ingersoll was thrown from his bike and sustained head injuries because he was not wearing a helmet. He died later at a nearby hospital.
The Patrol says alcohol and speed were not factors in the crash.
Ingersoll was travelling in a group of four motorcycles bound for Sturgis. The annual motorcycle rally begins Monday.
