Hiawatha man seriously hurt in motorcycle crash

A Hiawatha man suffered a serious head injury when he crashed his motorcycle in a parking lot early Tuesday, police said.
Officers responded around 1:40 a.m. to Hy-Vee, 5050 Edgewood Rd. NE, and found Brett Shakespeare, 25, injured. They determined he fell off his motorcycle when it went up onto a curb.
Sgt. Cristy Hamblin classified the injury as serious but did not know if it was life-threatening. Shakespeare, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken by ambulance to St. Luke's Hospital.
An investigation is continuing and charges are possible, Hamblin said.
