Brewer, Laverne Jay

Laverne Jay Brewer, 87, of Lamont, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011, at his home. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at Madison Cemetery, Lamont. A lunch will follow at the American Legion in Fairbank. Iowa Cremation is assisting the family.

Laverne Brewer was born May 28, 1924, to William and Jesse (Lowery) Brewer in Littleton, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Betty Jean (Nielsen) on May 19, 1945, in Independence. Laverne was a self-employed jack-of-all-trades and was constantly working to support his family, whom he loved.

He will be greatly missed by all who love him.

He is survived by four children, Linda (William) Burgess of Toddville, William (Renee) Brewer of Oelwein, Terry (Vicki) Brewer of Illinois and Randy (Kandi) Brewer of Arlington; 14 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.

Laverne was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Jean Brewer in 2002; son, Keith James Brewer in 1991; infant daughter, Karen Jean Brewer in 1947; three brothers, Kenneth, Wilbur and Dale Brewer; and three sisters, Elva Matthews, Donna Beavers and Nina Strempke.
