Charles Owen Arch Jr. was born March 10, 1935, in Hillsdale, Mich., the son of Charles Owen Arch Sr. and Lillian Hanes Arch. Following graduation from high school in Hillsdale, he enlisted in the United States Army serving one enlistment. After this, he enrolled and graduated with an engineering degree from Tri State College. On December 18, 1960, he married Mary Anne Lane in Reading, Mich. For most of his life he was an engineer. Following the death of his wife, he left South Carolina and moved to northeast Iowa. This spring he moved to Hills to be nearer to his son and family in Iowa City.
His family includes two sons and their wives, Christopher and Carol Arch of Iowa City, and Jeffery and Pennie Arch of Hilliard, Ohio; five grandchildren, David, Katherine, Joseph, Mary and Daniel Arch, all of Iowa City; sister, Mary Hoover of Mishawaka, Ind.; sister-in-law, Janet Arch of Paw Paw, Mich.; brothers-in-law, Charles Garrett of Hillsdale, Mich., and Jerry Lane of Chandler, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother and three sisters.
Chuck had many interests throughout his lifetime, some that most would remember would be his love of music; he enjoyed playing and caring for banjos and harmonicas. Chuck was in numerous bands throughout the years, from Gospel, Dixieland and Bluegrass. He was a man of strong Christian faith and love for his family.
Chuck's family wishes to thank Iowa City Hospice for their loving care of our dad and grandfather; and a special thank you to Dr. Thomas Gross for his caring and astute medical expertise.
Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Chuck's family and his services.
