Kintzel, Velma L.
Velma L. Kintzel, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center surrounded by her family.
She was born Dec. 14, 1925, in Oxford Junction, Iowa. She was the beloved wife of Carl K. Kintzel. They were united in marriage on Aug. 28, 1949. She received her X-ray certification at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids and worked there for a number of years. After raising her family, she worked as a preschool teacher at both Kenwood Park Presbyterian Church and Jane Boyd Community House.
Velma was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She thoroughly enjoyed her time painting with her many friends from Creative Artists. She was a past member of PEO. She and Carl enjoyed traveling abroad, multiple cruises and dancing at many venues wherever they went. In her spare time, her many talents involved cooking, sewing, gardening and playing bridge.
Velma is survived by her husband of 63 years, Carl; her two sons, Jeff (Christy) Kintzel of Cedar Rapids and Mark (Nancy) Kintzel of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren Ryan (Jackie) Colberg of Aurora, Ill., Joshua Kintzel of Cedar Rapids, Mollie Kintzel and fiance Marty McDonald of Manchester, Scott Kintzel and his mother, Denise Kintzel of Cedar Rapids; great-grandchildren, Hayden and Jackson Colberg of Aurora, Ill.; sister-in-law, Ruth Burda of Texas; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Everett and Doris Kintzel of Blairstown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents, Delbert and Emma Burda; and brother, Francis.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Medical Center Foundation.
The family would like to thank all the compassionate, caring doctors, nurses and staff at Mercy Hospital for the wonderful care that was provided for Velma. Velma was a wonderful, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many and will be missed by all.
