A West Liberty man faces numerous charges after police said he assaulted a woman while she tried to escape from an apartment.
Leonard A. Larson, 21, of 410 E. Sixth Street, was arrested by Iowa City police after police said an altercation occurred with a woman around 3 a.m. Saturday at a residence on Gilbert Court.
According to police reports, the woman said Larson grabbed her and prevented her from entering an apartment. But when she was able to get the door open, police said Larson pushed his way inside, where he grabbed her and pushed her to the ground - striking her head with his hand.
The woman told police she got away, but Larson chased her and dragged her back inside. Police said when she tried to make calls from her cell phone, Larson took the phone away.
Police said the woman then got away and ran to a nearby business to call for help.
When police located Larson, he was in the hallway of the apartment with the woman's cell phone and apartment key.
He was charged with false imprisonment, domestic abuse assault, first-degree burglary and fourth-degree theft.
