McKillip, Kermit R.
Kermit R. McKillip, 81, of Anamosa, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at his home. Graveside Service: 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, at Springville Cemetery, Springville.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; children, Mary Cimo of Dover, Del., Kathleen McKillip of Colorado Springs, Colo., Michael McKillip of Raleigh, N.C., and Kenneth McKillip of Des Moines; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and sister, Viola VanDerhorn of Muscatine.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Robert McKillip, William McKillip, Charlotte Bartkus, Darlene Schaeffer, Betty Schrock and Geneva Marshall.
Kermit was born Aug. 16, 1932, in Fruitland Township (Muscatine), Iowa, the son of John and Hazel (Miller) McKillip. He graduated from Muscatine High School in 1950 and attended Morningside Community College. Kermit was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in air traffic control for 20 years. He also worked as a truck driver for many years. Kermit married Helen McGaffic on Dec. 29, 1984, in Springville.
Kermit enjoyed golfing, fishing, reading, watching “bad” westerns, bird watching and gardening. He was a volunteer for hospice and Meals on Wheels and was a regular at the gym. Kermit was a member of Anamosa United Methodist Church.
