Hours after reports surfaced that Dwight Howard would sing a free-agent contract with the Rockets, Houston traded former first-round draft pick Royce White to the Philadelphia 76ers for future considerations, according to CBSSports.com
The move is an effort to clear cap space as the Rockets position themselves to sign Howard. Along with White, the Rockets will send an international prospect and cash considerations to Philadelphia.
White was the 16th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. He suffers from an anxiety order, which led to a contentious relationship with Rockets management during his rookie season. He did not appear in a single regular-season game due to a disagreement over the team's treatment of him.
In his final year at Iowa State, White averaged 13 points, nine rebounds and five assists for the Cyclones.
