Krapfl, The Rev. Daniel A.
The Rev. Daniel A. Krapfl, 78, of 786 Stone Ridge Place, Dubuque, died at 6:15 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque. Friends and relatives may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade, where a wake service will be held at 3 p.m. The Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade is in charge of arrangements. Services for the Rev. Krapfl will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade, with Archbishop Jerome Hanus officiating. Homilist will be the Rev. Gary Krapfl. Concelebrating will be classmates of Father Msgr. Leon Connolly, Msgr. John Dalton, Father George Karnik, Father John O'Connor and several other priests from the Archdiocese. Burial will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Farley, Iowa.
Daniel was born Nov. 30, 1932 in Dyersville, Iowa, son of Hugo F. and Alvina P. (Osterhaus) Krapfl. He received his education in the Dubuque County Country schools and graduated from St. Joseph's Grade and High School in Farley. He attended Loras College and Mount Saint Bernard Seminary, both in Dubuque. He also attended the National Association of Catholic Chaplains Certification School. On Feb. 1, 1958, he was ordained at St. Raphael's Cathedral in Dubuque. On Feb. 2, 1958, he presided at his First Mass at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Farley. Father's ministries included many appointments, Sacred Heart Church in Rockwell, St. Patrick's Church and Wahlert High School in Dubuque, St. Mary's Church in Waterloo, Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, American Martyrs' Retreat House in Cedar Falls, St. Mary's Church in New Hampton, Holy Trinity Church in Dubuque, and St. Mary and St. Martin, now St. Matthias Church in Cascade.
He is survived by two brothers, Kenneth (Janaan) Krapfl of Monticello, and the Rev. Gary Krapfl of Lansing; one sister, Nancy Krapfl of Dubuque; one brother-in-law, John Lansing of New Vienna; one sister-in-law, Mary Krapfl Mills of Holiday Island, Ark.; 19 nieces and nephews; and 35 great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugo and Alvina P. Krapfl; two brothers, one in infancy and Dick Krapfl; three sisters, twins, Joan and Jean Krapfl and Lois Lansing; and a niece, Judy Lansing.
