C.R. postal service is worth saving
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Dec. 3, 2011 1:19 pm
The United States Postal Service has proposed a plan to move mail-handling operations from Cedar Rapids to the Quad Cities. This will cost the city 200 jobs, prestige to attract new businesses, some timely services and the morale of the remaining postal employees who will watch their friends be laid off.
I operate a small mail-order business and know how hard and efficiently these people work. The Cedar Rapids plant is profitable for the USPS and deserves our support.
We have until Dec. 14 to let the USPS know we object to their plan. Write them. Write your local and state representatives. Tell your friends to protest the plan, too.
Send public comments before Dec. 14 to: Manager, Consumer & Industry Contact, Hawkeye District, 7900 Hickman Road, Des Moines, IA 50324-4400
