Replacing Prosser will be difficult
May. 31, 2010 12:08 am
I observed former City Manager Jim Prosser's activities through our news media and found them to be professional, thoughtful of all Cedar Rapidians rather than a few special interest groups, and very helpful to our then-new City Council. I haven't heard why Mayor Ron Corbett and his four followers were so against Prosser. He should have been shown appreciation and gratitude for his professional conduct and countless hours applied to Cedar Rapids and its citizens, businesses and needs during his tenure, his devotion beyond what his actual responsibilities were, both during and post flood of 2008, instead of apparently being forced out.
Prosser seemed to be a believer in the ability to care for what we have, before acquiring more. In 2008, Prosser was voted the city manager of the year and we were fortunate to have him.
Obtaining a replacement for Prosser, one that is not a puppet for the mayor and his followers but rather a city manager with true leadership abilities, is going to be difficult, upon word of Prosser's resignation circulating nationwide.
