Layoffs announced in Iowa pharmacy college

Eleven people from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy's manufacturing department received layoff notices Tuesday.
UI spokesman Tom Moore said the decision was probably driven by the current economic climate as well and the decreased demand needed for their position in the pharmaceutical department.
Moore said the layoffs must be approved by the state of Iowa Board of Regents before the decision becomes final.
“There is no single date,” of termination of their jobs, Moore said. He said those dates vary based on individual contracts and length of service.
Although the decision for the layoffs was made within the last month, Moore said there is no timeline for when final decisions would be made.
“It takes as long as it takes,” he said.
