Cruz, King not good options for GOP
The Gazette Opinion Staff

The Oct. 26 article, “Cruz champions ideals to unite GOP,” was quite interesting. Sen. Ted Cruz was recently in western Iowa, supposedly to go with Rep. Steve King on a pheasant-hunting expedition.
They were acting as “good old boys” who will supposedly relate to western Iowa farmers who are a minority of voters in our great state.
Because I am a Democrat, I hope that Cruz wins the Republican presidential nomination. He and King have made such derogatory remarks directed at not only President Obama but also African Americans and Latinos.
These two groups represent a significant proportion of U.S. voters whom Mitt Romney failed to attract. Throw in the liberals, independents and moderate Republicans who will vote for a Democrat, and the Democrats will win by a landslide.
Cruz pretends that he will unite the Republican Party. However, he is too radical, and will represent only the Tea Party wing of the party. Maybe King will be the vice presidential candidate. Good luck in getting elected “good old boys.”
