UPDATE: The man driving a stolen pickup Tuesday finally stopped when a front wheel assembly broke off, police said.
Phillip J. Knight, 42, of Waterloo, faces multiple charges after leading police on a chase along Highway 13 into Marion on Tuesday. It started around 5:35 p.m. when a caller at Casey's, 888 Vernon Valley Dr., reported a pickup was stolen from the parking lot.
Marion police first located the pickup and a high-speed chase ensued north on Highway 13. The chase reached speeds of over 100 mph, police said. It ended at the intersection of Highway 13 and Highway 151 when the pickup went into the northwest ditch and its wheel fell off, authorities said.
Knight was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Linn County Jail. He is charged with operation without owner's consent, attempting to elude and interference with official acts.
An investigation is continuing.
