Even playing field with C.R. casino

Proposed Cedar Rapids casino opponents say vote “no” because, among other things, the “yes” voters' casino salesman has not identified a site. Big deal! Isn't it obvious that any designated site would be unacceptable to opponents before or after a vote of approval?

A Meskwaki casino spokesman believes his casino will be cannibalized if the Linn County gambling referendum is passed and Cedar Rapids gets state license approval. Competition is competition. Keep Linn County money local. Vote “yes” on March 5.

Naysayers say jobs will be lost locally. Do they wish to share their lost job figures for Waterloo, Riverside and Dubuque after casinos were constructed in those respective areas?

There are good happenings in Cedar Rapids - Czech Village revival, NewBo activities, a remodeled civic center/hotel, a new public library, new amphitheater, and other identifiable projects. A casino will be a nice entertainment addition. It will not only attract thousands from outside the county, it will draw other Cedar Rapidians such as me who occasionally enjoy a few hours playing penny slots, close to home.

Cannibalization? Why not talk about an even playing field? Cedar Rapids at least needs to be allowed in the game.
