Group rewriting Bible to serve its agenda
The Gazette Opinion Staff

I read Leonard Pitts' column (Oct. 18) about a group of conservatives that has deemed the Bible too liberal and is going to rewrite it. All these years they have been lecturing us that the Bible is the unchanging, infallible Word of God, and now they are going to rewrite the whole thing to suit their conservative political views.
Free-market capitalist ideas are going to be emphasized. “Gender-neutral language” is going to be eliminated, to emphasize men. Words such as “peace” and “miracle” will be re-examined and may be replaced. And that ultimate liberal, Jesus Christ, hanging out with the poor and downtrodden - well, that has to be changed.
It's outrageous, really. Jesus would be a liberal working to help the poor and disadvantaged, those in prison, working for peace, working for universal health care.
This is just another example of how far the right wing has lost touch with normal thought processes. Beware of false prophets, serving their own needs before God's.
