Amity J. Blakey Jr., 93, a resident of Living Center West, died there Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, after a long illness. Services, with military rites: 1 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Blakey; a son, Amity III; a brother, Ronald (Darlene), and two sisters, Marjorie Garrison and Freda Long, all of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, a daughter, Cynthia, two brothers and four sisters.
Amity was born Sept. 5, 1921, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Amity Sr. and Lottie Parkey Blakey. He married Dorothy A. Shedenhelm on April 2, 1948, in Cedar Rapids. Dorothy passed away in 2000.
Amity worked at Penick & Ford for over 24 years and later at Rockwell Collins, retiring from there after eight years of service.
He was a member of the Masons and a 50-year member of the American Legion. Amity was very proud of his military service. He was a drill instructor in the Marine Corps during World War II.
He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed the time spent with his friends and beloved family.
He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
