Every so often, and predictably, a mainstream media type will trot out a Republican - better if a self-identified conservative - who breaks with the party over same-sex marriage. Fair enough, although this is usually treated as a “man bites dog” scenario.
What we don't read are the stories of Democrats, particularly those of Catholic backgrounds, who oppose same-sex marriage. This takes a lot of courage in a party dominated by its left flank.
But I suppose we will just have to keep waiting as those sort of stories do not fit the prevailing ideology of most reporters, editors and columnists.
