Notorious garden thieves

It was a tranquil, picturesque summer's evening at the community gardens, punctuated only by a few choice expletives emitted by my mouth. Last year, toward the end of the gardening season, someone nabbed numerous cabbage from my garden. This time, it's only mid-August and apparently they're at it again. Why cabbage? I have no clue. But I think they've been into my cukes, too, as every week I see little cucumbers starting, only to find none the next time I visit. I realize that's the risk you take when you're in the city-leased gardens and everyone out there has probably experienced this to some extent. As my co-gardeners often state, if you want something, just ask. Gardeners are really some of the nicest, most generous people I've run across. Just stop sneaking around and nabbing what you want. Maybe these are people in need, maybe not. At least they're getting a healthy meal.
